QED has been designed to provide you with as much flexibility as possible, to enable you to get the maximum use out of your database. To help you use the power of QED easily, there are several facilities available in all areas of Mapping development. These facilities will assist you by making much of the task of creating a Mapping as automatic as possible.
For example, the DRAW command will complete the syntax of a partial MDL command, leaving you to just fill in the blanks and the Clipboard allows you to re-use whole sections of code without having to re-type anything. The availability of the Entity Attribute action means that you don't have to remember attribute names - you can just pick them from a list and have them entered automatically.
The common features described here are:
These facilities work in the same way wherever you are in QED; this makes them easy to learn and use. They are fully described here; only variations in use or action are noted in the sections where they apply (there are, inevitably, some slight differences which arise due to context).
The Common Features described in this help relate to QED only. They should not be confused with the Common Features described in the other e5 help modules. The e5 Common User Guide gives detailed descriptions of common actions such as Update, Exit and Refresh, which are available throughout e5 and QED. This help module (and the QED System Administration help) describes actions available in the various QED screens as Special Actions: they are called Special because they are special to QED (that is, not necessarily relevant to e5 ), but this help calls them Common because they are available (when relevant) throughout QED.
There are few restrictions on the availability of particular facilities within QED. However, the availability of a facility or routine, or the ability to use a particular command, does not necessarily imply that such use would be sensible for you in your current context. The opposite also applies; if any facilities, routines, or commands are not available, then this is because their use could lead to serious problems.
